Gameplay[]
The game takes place some time after 4E 175, with the kingdom of King Odar the Brave neighbouring the Bloodfall Kingdom during the reign of the Bloodfall Queen, as one of the rulings encountered reads,
“Your grace, the Bloodfall Queen suggest [sic.] a joint campaign against the Goblins, or sending in the champion of Rivercrest if we help rebuild the town.”
At the beginning of the game, King Odar the Brave has been assassinated under the orders of his queen, Ysabel of Camlorn, who was jealous of the king’s romantic affair with a Khajiit commoner named Alassi. After this prelude, the player is guided by Cassius the Elder in their first ruling: choosing a successor to King Odar. They may choose one of four subjects: Ysabel of Camlorn, Joffar, Rahim al-Elinhir, or Alassi. But, the player may see any one of these choices replaced with any other subject as the game progresses.
The player controls the kingdom’s castle and its subjects, expanding the castle by building rooms and workstations. There is also a quest line that sees the player control three of their subjects in battle. Individual subjects can be equipped with armour, weapons, tools, and clothing that make them more effective in combat or operating at a workstation. The player also controls which subjects get married or have children.
